We’re on a ‘Mission’ to give back this Christmas

Over the course of this year, we have been on something of a mission to raise funds for Northsound’s Cash for Kids 2022 Mission Christmas Appeal.

It’s the second consecutive year that our team have raised money for the Cash for Kids Appeal. Using SEM’s American Express Rewards Scheme, we have raised almost £700 to purchase a variety of children’s gifts from Amazon to donate directly to the Appeal.

Our HR and Business Co-Ordinator, Vicky Madigan said, “Many families across the UK are still struggling as a consequence of the pandemic, and of course the current cost-of-living crisis. When we heard on the radio that the volume of applications for support from Mission Christmas had skyrocketed, we decided that we wanted to contribute to this important local charity.

“It was very timely for SEM to get involved as we were looking for new ways to continue our long-standing tradition of festive charitable work. In previous years we have donated to local food banks, as well as the Mission Christmas appeal. During the pandemic, SEM’s founder and COO, Grant Leslie, kindly gave me leave to volunteer at the Friends of Anchor Radiotherapy department during working hours.

“Giving back to the local community is hugely important to all of us here at SEM, so it’s very gratifying for us to be able to deliver some much needed festive cheer to the North-east’s children and young people through the Mission Christmas Appeal.”

Vicky recently went along to Mission Christmas HQ Aberdeen to hand over the array of gifts purchased for the Appeal. Louise Douglas from Cash for Kids was on hand to accept them: “I am absolutely thrilled and also very thankful to SEM for supporting Mission Christmas again this year,” said Louise.

She added, “Without companies like SEM, some disadvantaged children would be waking up with nothing to open on Christmas morning. We are helping to keep the magic of Christmas alive and giving hope to these children and families. Charitable donations like those from SEM demonstrate how compassion can make a difference to local children’s lives in our communities not just at Christmas, but provide hope for the future too.”

Northsound Cash for Kids works with organisations across Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire that support disadvantaged children aged 0 – 18. Mission Christmas works closely with social workers, headteachers and also the emergency services to nominate families in crisis to be supported by the appeal. It is the largest annual Christmas toy appeal in the UK.
