As an active member of Aberdeen and Grampian Chamber of Commerce since 2017, we have been able to broaden our network with a diverse array of stakeholders, which has helped us grow into the company we are today. Working with leading agricultural technology centre, Agri-EPI, has enabled us to share and journey and showcase our technology directly to the market tasked with the handling and valorisation of animal manure to not only reduce costs, but create a sustainable revenue stream.

Anaerobic Digestion and Bioresources Association (ADBA)

Through lobbying activities, meetings with government officials, working groups, high profile industry events and educational material, ADBA aims to facilitate the anaerobic digestion (AD) industry’s growth. The ADBA’s vast network of members provides an insight into the current and predicted future challenges of the anaerobic digestion market.

Our proprietary technology – H2OPE AD has been designed to address the increasing challenge of handling organic slurries such as digestate. The technology recovers nutrients and resources from the. digestate, not only reducing waste and carbon emissions, but also generating new by-products to boost food security.

Carbon Zero

We have been working with Carbon Zero since 2020, to assess and validate the deployment of our technologies which impact positively on businesses by reducing carbon and waste whilst optimising operational efficiencies.

Carbon Zero have provided fundamental data sets which highlight our success; from a 74% carbon reduction in the treatment of slurries, to a 97% reduction in carbon by creating natural fertilisers and growing media.

We joined EcoVadis – leading providers of business sustainability ratings – in 2021, to enable transparency in our journey with our customers and suppliers alike. Upon our first assessment we were awarded a silver sustainability rating award, which placed SEM in the top 25% of assessed companies.

Energy Acquisitions Group Ltd (EAG)

EAG specialise in energy acquisition and have long-standing experience in the Biogas industry. We have formed an exclusive partnership with them for the deployment of our H2OPE technology which processes digestate, a by-product of biogas production, into nutrient dense, high-quality fertiliser, nutritionally balanced growth media and a sustainable peat substitute. This will in turn supply growers and their customers in the fresh produce sector with a sustainable and effective alternative to fossil fuel derived fertiliser.

Industrial Biotechnology Innovation Centre (IBioIC)

IBioIC is a networking and support organisation that connects industry, academia and government to bring biotechnology processes and products to the global market. To date, SEM have successfully completed several projects with the support of IBioIC and their network. Validating both new and existing theories to enhance nutrient and resource recovery from existing and newly identified markets.

The James Hutton Institute makes a major contribution to the understanding of key global issues, such as food, energy and environmental security by developing and promoting effective technological and management solutions to these. As one of our industrial partners, the James Hutton Institute provides support in both soil and water analysis to augment the development of our products, and confirm that we are complying with legislation.

The Real Living Wage movement is an important step towards creating a fairer, more just society where everyone has access to a decent standard of living. National Farmers Union (NFU)

NFU Scotland supports and promotes its members to achieve a sustainable and profitable future for Scottish agriculture. We recently joined NFUS which enables us to have a long-term partnership with the agricultural community. This helps us to showcase technologies and solutions which not only reduce carbon and inefficiencies when handling slurry, but also recover natural resources within waste streams. This helps to create new products, contributing to the industry’s drive towards self-sufficiency, whilst evolving practices to align with changing legislation.

One Carbon World

One Carbon World is a non-profit organisation and global resource partner of the Climate Neutral Now Initiative launched by United Nations Climate Change (UNFCCC). Recognised around the globe, offering support on measuring, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, the organisation helps various business to monitor their carbon footprint. SEM have been successful in being awarded Carbon Neutral status by One Carbon World in both 2020 and 2021, and we plan to maintain this for many years to come.

Proteus Instruments are one of our technology partners, who manufacture Proteus – a pioneering water quality assessment and multiparameter monitoring technology.
