PLUTUS

Achieving sustainable aquaculture

Global Aquaculture production has grown at an impressive rate over the past three decades – by 58 million tonnes no less, and this rising global demand shows no signs of stopping.

Our PLUTUS technology is designed to tackle the challenges facing the aquaculture industry, while simultaneously fostering the evolution of a circular economy.

PLUTUS is intended to increase revenue streams by generating high value by-products from fish waste that can be sold back into the market or re-used in the fish farming process.

Re-purposing co-products is an important, clean and sustainable production opportunity. Not only will it potentially generate additional revenue from by-products, but it will also cut handling costs and associated emissions.

Each PLUTUS facility is designed to handle up to 10,000 tonnes of fish waste per year.

What’s in it for you and the planet?

  • Eliminates biosecurity on disease affected oily fish
  • Reduction in handling, storage and utility costs
  • High value by-product production
  • Decarbonisation of the waste handling process
  • Avoidance of regulatory penalties
  • Pollution control
  • Local waste disposal and management
  • Water re-use

Sustainable by-product production

  • Biodiesel
PLUTUS recovers up to 20% oil from Category 2 fish waste to convert into biodiesel.

Through processing Category 2 fish waste, the PLUTUS system can recover valuable oils, which can be transformed into biodiesel that can either be acquired by fish farms to fuel vessels or sold on for use in industry such as agricultural machinery, public transport or haulage.

  • Natural Fertiliser
Natural fertiliser is produced with 97% less emissions compared to inorganic products.

By obtaining solid matter from Category 2 waste, the PLUTUS system can recover valuable proteins to produce a recycled, natural fertiliser. This provides a 100% environmentally friendly alternative to inorganic fertilisers and can help soil improvement.

  • High Protein Solids
High value nutrient recovery from category 3 fish waste.

Fish proteins contain 16-18 amino acids, producing nutrient-rich by-products and therefore it was imperative that PLUTUS was designed to also extracts valuable protein and omega oils from the Category 3 waste. These can be included as a functional ingredient in many foodstuffs.

Applicable SDGs

How does the aquaculture waste management technology work?

  • PLUTUS processes fish waste to remove volatile contaminants and dewater the waste.
  • The energy efficient technology separates fish waste into three categories: solids, oils and water.
  • The solid and oil fractions can be repurposed into products of high market value.
  • Water is also cleaned for safe environmental discharge and/or potentially reusable water.

*Note that Category 2 and 3 waste streams are processed separately.
